Having lived through the Civil Rights movement and celebrated the changes it created, I think this is a pivotal time. I believe – I deeply pray – that now we act upon the undeniable recognition and understanding of the impact of institutionalized racism on generations of people of color in our country. We must change institutions, laws, but I truly believe real change will come when all accept the human tragedy of racism in our country and seek to change their hearts and eventually our culture. Without cultural change this critical moment in time may be lost. I will work to do all I can to not let this moment pass.
