What does “majority minority” even mean?

Heard the phrase “majority minority” on the radio the other day. I know exactly what they meant and I have heard it many times before, but it irked me. Used to express when an ethnic minority is greater than 50% or outnumber the “majority.” The implications are that the majority equals white and that non-white will always be referred to as the minority regardless of who outnumbers who. Non-whites outnumbered whites before the Pilgrims came. It looks like caucasians will once again be outnumbered by non-caucasians. When terms like minority and majority no longer make sense, replace them with what you really mean- black, hispanic, asian, non-white, caucasian, etc.
