Recently I’ve been studying my history, my essence, that extends beyond what was taught in school and at church. I remember learning more about my race’s detriment and disabilities over our triumphs and royalty. From Kemet up until now, we possess more powerful stories than we know about and every kid needs to know this so the scales can be balanced. To know that this information existed but wasn’t taught in my schools or my church, breaks my heart and I felt betrayed. To know that I have the capabilities to empower myself and seek it on my own tells me what I need to prepare my daughter for. Perception is reality, which is a concept I’ve always struggled with, but we can change that perception because there’s more to the story. I’m for integration of schools but I’m also for telling and teaching the truth. Hotep!
