As an overly educated black woman with a law degree who is working on a PHD… I most often feel that my voice is not heard or valued. I think back to being a young ambitious person with lots of hopes and dreams …my voice was loud….My voice was proud… …but throughout my life… throughout my many failures and many disappointments that I have endured because of my race… I have often found my voice muted because of my black skin. I’ve muted myself because of fear–that I would not be understood.
