This question shouldn’t even be there.

I’m from Eastern Europe and I find America’s racial diversity very interesting and exciting. That being said America is entirely too focused on the label of race – from job applications, college applications, scholarships, to nearly every government form. The principle of the question really bothers me and I usually select “Other” or “Refuse to Answer”. I won’t be labeled by these simple terms. But then a doubt creeps in.. does it matter? How will it affect my chances of getting into my dream school or landing my dream job? I want to stick it to the man for asking but I don’t have enough confidence in our system that it won’t hurt me in return. This question shouldn’t even be there. It makes no difference.
