Some of my best friends are_____ (insert insult) Lesbians, Gay, Latin, Black, Women. For most of my adult life I have been met with this reaction. Because I am always trying to educate I take it with a grain of salt and assume positive intent and remind myself that people are trying to connect. I had one of my absolute best conversations with a customer who asked me what he could have done differently as a father to have educated his kids more on being gay and a minority, He was 85 years old and to this day I speak to him because he showed me that he wanted to do right and I was able to help him see me for me and not the labels that follow me.
