Renesha Nelson
Stereotypes- knowing that when people see my name written —-Renesha Shateika Michelle Nelson—- they think oh ghetto—-never fathoming of giving me a chance to make a sentence
Fear- the heavy feeling in the pit of my stomach that resides in me because I have two beautiful brothers and nephews that could easily be snatched from me because of the melanin that lives on their skin
Barriers-the 400 years of oppression that we have to push, stomp and kick through just so we can get a semblance to live the life that you do
Beauty- it’s everywhere, in you, you, and me but unfortunately it gets lost sometimes in the color of our skin, now you won’t know that my beauty was your kin
Identity- its my oneness with my blackness, the texture of my hair, the cadence of my vernacular and everything that lives in me that some people just can’t see
Differences- you’re tall, I’m short..your big, he’s small, he’s a male and she’s a female, I’m blac….. your white but we should all be able to come together and fight for what is right
