To me race is just a social and political construct that is very binding. A reason for humans to hate each other’s differences and to create these unwarranted and detestable battles for superiority. I’ve been forced before to just tick a single box in standardized test that says if you’re not the same you’re below. Or if its wrong to want to know and take part in another culture. I believe that race is a term that should never have been created.

Man not party. Biggest Bigot running.

My southern blue collar father said that he never voted for the party but only for the man. Most of his life he voted for Democrats but in his last years he voted all Republican. He always voted for the biggest bigots running, even if only by party association, Dad told me (seriously) that he was unaware of any intelligent black person and that all women should be homemakers and raising babies unless they were too ugly to find husbands. Today millions of Americans feel as he did an, although even to themselves they deny their unreasonable they deny their unreasonable prejudices. They, vote that their fears and hatreds, even against the best interest of themselves and their families, in the privacy of voting booths. To change the world for the better, we must first change hearts and minds.

What I am, depends on where.

Shouldn’t need to defend my race.

With racism being such a prominent issue throughout the world, especially within the United States currently due to the hostile political atmosphere, I always feel as though I need to defend my race. Defending my race, in other words, is like constantly needing to defend my identity. No one should feel subjected to such a terrible feeling; our race is not the same as the political corruption that stems from our countries of origin. We live within the United States and love the United States. Immigrants of all races and cultures compose the United States. Love and acceptance should always trump hate.

Acknowledging privilege isn’t accepting the blame.

None of us decided to be born white, just as none of us created the social and political systems that discriminate against people based on race. You didn’t choose for things to be this way, but they are. Acknowledging that these pre-existing systems benefit you doesn’t make you a bad person; it simply means you can see. But if you don’t analyze your privilege you will be blind to it, and thus you will be doomed to repeat these mistakes and perpetuate these systems of oppression. You say that race shouldn’t matter? It’s time to start walking your talk. When you open your eyes, what you see might make you uncomfortable. You’ll likely have a powerful urge to look away. Pace yourself – blink if you must – but don’t look away. That discomfort you feel is the truth, and it won’t go away unless we focus on it.
