I remember I visited a plantation in Louisiana and noticed a difference in the questions asked and the disposition of some of the White people on the tour versus some of the Black people on the tour. Some of the White people were taking smiling photos by the beautiful oak trees and asking questions about the social lives of the plantation owners whereas some of the Black people were more solemn and asking questions about the lives of the enslaved people there and seemed more aware of the enormity of where they were.
