I tend to do quite a bit of volunteering. During one of my volunteer events, while working for another corporation, toward the end, a fellow co-worker turned to me and said that there was no way I was just white. I stood there staring at her; she then said that there had to be a bit of black in my family for me to have turned out so “cool”. She attempted to tell me that I shouldn’t take offense to what she was saying; that it was a compliment.
