As a young adult I was challenged with feeling comfortable being open about my sexuality. I joined SMYAL in D.C. and through support groups, I found the courage to be open. When people would ask if I had a boyfriend my response was “I Love Women!” and lots of the responses primarily from other black women would be “You’re too pretty to be gay!” What does that mean?! You should be planning to procreate as if being gay prohibits me from having children. Haven’t heard it in many years but when I asked myself “What are your six words?” This immediately came to mind!
