I can’t see my race story.

AARP Empathy For Impact

As a white male who grew up when the goal was to not “see” whether someone is Black, Hispanic, etc., I feel so very behind when it comes to appreciating, in whatever small way I can, what the experience of racism is really like. It is clearly horrible, wrong, evil, but I know I am saying that standing outside with a privileged (though not perfect) upbringing trying to imagine something that I know I can’t ever really understand. I often feel like I don’t….even can’t…have anything to say in race discussions. I stay silent because I know that I don’t know.
