Watch, wait, think, act, repeat, repeat.

I moved to Kansas City in 1980 from my hometown of Detroit, Michigan. For the first few weeks, I learned to navigate the streets, applied for jobs and checked out the Country Club Plaza. While browsing the counters at Swansons, I noticed several customers being helped who had arrived after me. My first thought was… maybe the salesperson didn’t see me. After more customers were helped, my next thought was…I can’t believe this is happening right in front of me today. Then I said, “Excuse me, but I am next.” I realized then that even though I was in a different place requiring a different set of skills and behaviors, I will never accept erasure.
