I won’t apologize for being white.

It is really difficult to explain to people that I’m proud of my heritage, especially among my educated friends. It isn’t that my heritage is difficult to understand or very complicated – it’s just that I’m white. There’s really no reason to be “proud” of one’s race, since it isn’t something one can do something about, but I’m proud of my heritage. I refuse to apologize because some people who looked like me were more powerful than some other people and took advantage of that situation. I didn’t do any of those things, and there is nothing that I can do to change what happened. I’m proud of where I came from, and I have just as much right to be proud of my heritage as someone who is black or brown or any other shade.
