You may not know you’re racist.

Taylor Hirano,
Irvine, CA.

Growing up in a mostly Caucasian community, many of my fellow peers didn’t know they were racist against me. It could come from backhanded compliments like “You’re so pretty for an Asian”, to minor comments such as “My sisters boyfriend is Asian, you probably know him”. Whenever I said anything they would always say “I didn’t know it was racist” or “I didn’t mean it like that”.
