Don’t see racism where it is not

I am so grateful for increased awareness about racism in our society (it certainly still exists and we should continue to focus on efforts to achieve equality) but I am also concerned about suggestions of racism (with ensuring public outrage) in cases that do not seem to involve racism at all. As an educated, open-minded, self-aware, compassionate, all humanity-loving, feminist, socially liberal, supporter of equality … I am concerned that accusations of racism without premise will undermine the validity of actual examples of racism… and ultimately impede the movement towards achieving equality. Black lives matter, but, really, all lives matter – black, white, hispanic, asian…we all matter, and we all matter equally. Not all arrests, police shootings, judicial verdicts are racially motivated. We need to identify things that are, but not overplay things that aren’t.
