I work at a doctor’s office, and there are many patients who put down that their race is “American” instead of white. It often confuses me that there are still people who see America as a white citizen country. Yes, America is predominately white, but America is also very diverse. There are over six recognized races in the U.S. There are Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, and many other citizens in the U.S. who are not only American, but a different race than white. I think it is very important that this be embraced and recognized.
