I pondered this thought one time around MLK day when my second grade child climbed into my car and said “Dad did you know that white and black people hate each other? We learned that today at school.”
I came across you when I was doing some research on MLK’s I have a dream speech as part of a lesson plan I was doing on respect. I was struck by “content of character” and how that applies to respect. I deal with a lot of kids and I hear “I won’t respect them till they respect me” or “He was rude to me so I am not going to respect him” and I have tried to teach them that respect shows your character not someone else’s. So no matter how we are treated act with respect and dignity as to add to the content of your character. Thank you for your time.
