Race is Fiction. Racism is Fact

Byron Parrish

The idea of race is a fiction. There is no basis in biology for saying there are different races. Our ideas of race are a social construct, historically made up to support the unequal privileges and disadvantages that occur because of racism. However, racism is a real aspect of life in the USA (and the rest of the world). I am bothered when people say that we need to talk about the problem of race in America, when race doesn’t exist. The problem is Racism in America. Also, being color blind makes one blind not racism, not blind to race. We need to be Truthfully race aware.
