“We don’t know what y’all are..”

The story behind this statement goes like this, I was with a group of my friends, which consisted of mostly Asian-Americans and one Caucasian, and we had gone out to the panhandle of Florida for a crabbing trip. After crabbing we made our way to a campsite closeby we saw online. Upon arrival there were already several families at the campsite. We minded our own business and found an empty spot to setup camp. A few minutes passed and two men walked over to our group. In a thick accent the man with a ZZ Top beard said “We don’t know what y’all are, some Mexicans or something” The other man proceeded to say “They ain’t no niggas that’s for sure!” I was livid… I replied with “We aren’t Mexican, I am AMERICAN just like you!” ZZ Top then said “We don’t want no trouble and the warden don’t take nuttin around here. The warden come round here time to time. Like I said we don’t want no trouble or ya might for yerself floatin in a sinkhole!”
The two of them walked backed to their camp after that. This all went down even with our caucasian friend with us. We then decided the best decision was to leave. I didn’t want to be bullied out of there, but for our own safety it was the best decision. On our way out I saw that ZZ Top was on his phone. He could have been calling backup or his klan members.. so it was a good call. This is a true story and will stay in my memories forever. If I remember correctly this happened around the year 2007. It just goes to show how backwards some parts of our country are. Honestly, I believe things like this will never change. It is just human nature.
