Born and raised in an Asian country, which is the Philippines, one misconception of us is that we eat dog meat. It is my 7th year here in the United States, and a lot of people I’ve met normalize the joke that we Asians eat dog meat. It can be funny sometimes, but when you are in a public Asian restaurant, it’s inappropriate and offensive. In the Philippines, we do not sell dog meats in supermarkets. If you ask people on the streets about this, they will be horrified because eating dog meat is a taboo and illegal in the Philippines. Although there are places in the north where indigenous people lived where their ancestors dined on dog meat, you won’t expect them of restaurants. Filipinos are animal lovers, and I hope people stop making jokes about this matter anymore.
