I’ve always grown up not being able to speak Spanish, yet I’ve always identified as a Hispanic. However, regardless of my cultural heritage, my Hispanic ‘friends’ had always made it clear that because I can only speak English, I’ll never be able to culturally identify with them. In their eyes, I’ll always be the ‘gringa’ and the wanna-be Hispanic.
