My 4 year old asked me this about her 7 year sister ” she actually said ” Mommy, is Saffronia Indian?” I said, well if she was, you would be too. She said, but she looks like them. A woman who looked like she was from India and who overheard the story asked me if the kids father was Indian, as to her I could not be I suppose. I am a Black woman from West Africa. My children’s father is White American with a multitude of ethnicities. Point of the story? The absurdity of the definition of race and ethnicity.
