White mother brown daughter love fear

Dina Stonberg

I have had the privilege to not have to think about race most of my life. Fell in love with a wonderful, kind, caring African American man – formed our family through adoption and now have the privilege of raising a beautiful, smart African American daughter. She is a joy every day but I have silent (and not so silent) fears about the world she will grow up in. Experiencing white privilege from a perspective I will never know, experience or understand. How do I prepare her?
