It’s easier to say I’m White

Laura Pierson,
Los Angeles, CA.

I am Native American, Mexican, Spanish, English, Germany, and Irish. I was raised by a single mom that is Native American, English, German, and Irish. I didn’t know what being a Mexican meant or was like and I’m still trying to figure it out. As a child, I told people I was White, because it was easier than explaining why I don’t speak Spanish and why I don’t know my Birth Father. Labeling myself as White was a way to fit in with the kids around me, I was the awkward brown haired girl surrounded by pretty little blondes.
