Black Means Racing to Live

Laura Steele,
Atlanta, GA

This is what came to me immediately. The play on the word race and the feeling that black people have been racing for fairness and equality and to just live fairly alongside and among everyone. My heart is broken over every story I have seen or heard about black people being killed, about the social injustice and racism against them. I am especially In turmoil, bubbling over with fury right now. Why? Why? Why the hatred? Why the fear? I ask. I implore. It divides. It destroys. Wait, it controls. Is that why? Are some white people so insecure in their own lofty and privileged standing, they must oppress others to make sure they stay there? I’m ranting. I will stop. I will continue to be the best person I can be. I will continue to model to and teach my children and to speak out whenever I see injustice. God Bless us all.
