My skin is darker than yours.

Kristin Cooke,
Richmond, VA

I often was told my white friends were more black than me because of their tan. Outside of being asked “Do you and your siblings have the same parents?” or comments in regards to me sounding white or “educated”, Black people too would often not drive towards friendship with me because they couldn’t tell “which side I was on” due to the way I spoke, dressed, or how light my skin was.
