Full Filipino, but not quite full

Marsha,
TX

My name is Marsha, a student at HCC in the US. I am 100 percent Filipino, but there are times when I do not feel full. I was born in the US and my parents were always worried that their children had a proper education. They were scared for us to not be as successful, so we never learned Tagalog and to this day I cannot understand the language. Not being able to understand your native language has been one of my biggest regrets growing up. I also have not been able to travel back to the Philippines due to many reasons, especially with the pandemic. There are times when I feel not as connected to my culture because I have not had the same experiences as others.
