There’s a large amount of emphasis on society defining who I am, what I should identify as, how “Latina” I really am (based on language comprehension, cultural comprehension, immersion). But, my identity isn’t rooted in how society wants those like me to be perceived: I am rooted in my immigrant parent’s sacrifices for me and my siblings, my compassion for people and my curiosity for the world, my tangible passion for exploring the unknown, and my faith. I am the owner of my identity, no one else.
